Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
