Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the final table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While gambling on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player.
