Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While gambling on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found participating in web poker on Full Tilt.
