Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players anywhere in the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players anywhere in the world might be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on web poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
