Net Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best bettors around the world. While wagering on net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amount. I think television can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes Omaha and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
